Linux - Revolution OS

If you're interested in linux, then watching this is a must :)

Linux Release parties [an idea]

It's coming to that time of year where a certain distro is having a new release cough cough Ubuntu cough cough :) and that means Release Parties.  Info about release parties can be found on this blog

Ok so i'm thinking a little differently now, i'm thinking that while release parties are fun for everyone [mostly], they are not fun for, in my case, my wife.  You're wife/husband/Boyfriend/Girlfriend might not be interested either, so i have a possible plan for a release party up here in Nottingham.

Most people are interested in cooking, my wife has started being a Jamie @ Home consultant so she's selling stuff from the Jamie Oliver range of kitchen/home wares.  While the release party is going on, why not have her own stand showing the range of items that are available, i might add that she's also doing JO parties in the nottingham area anyway if you wanted one :), people who aren't interested in Ubuntu might be interested in what Jamie Oliver is upto and selling :D

Something i'm toying over, might not even be this release, could plan it for Narwhale?

Weekend

Well that’s my weekend over, at the moment i’m working Sat to Wed, it’s a pain but it’s not going to be for much longer, then it’s back on shifts……

I’ve been watching a number of VBLOGS, and for those of you who don’t know what these are, they are basically blogs, but video rather than typed, as this one currently is.

One of the ones i’m watching at the moment, and is an inspiration, is DAN 3.0, you can watch it at http://revision3.com/dan30  And get this, his name is Dan Brown Smile

I’m thinking of doing something similar, and as i’ve never done anything like this before, never been in front of a camera, never edited a web show, i’m going to probably make it like a tutorial……Well lets see what happens eh!

Nas drives

"Bloody hell how small?", yup that's the reaction when i unpacked my Netgear Nas Duo.  I wanted some extra storage at home with a little redundancy [it has raid 1 which is perfect for me] for my files, yes yes i know it's not backup, but it's the next best thing without spending x for offsite backups.  Plugging it in and setting it up using the setup cd was a breeze, it took a couple of hours for the 500gb drives in it to format and sync, but i knew that would happen.

Well there you have it, 500gb extra storage on my lan, start copying files over, result.  Oh yeah one thing that ticks me off.  I also have a Netgear router, it does it's job and is fine, but come on, only supports 100mb/half?   grrrrr

One problem i had with the NAS, connections to it from windows machines using cifs we painfully slow.   Did a little bit of investigation on the NET and apparently it's a known issue, windows/cifs don't play that well together.  Good job my primary OS is linux [Ubuntu] which connects and works a treat.

As a side note, interested in Ubuntu?  Why not purchase a book from Amazon :)

Yay so now i have a 500gb NAS on my lan, with raid 1.  Perfick.  Now to get my Xbox360 fixed so i can stream movies and TV episodes from it :D  oooo did i not tell you it can stream media too?

The Guild

If you've never watched the online web show "The Guild", shame on you :)

To quote from the wikipedia site

The Guild is an American comedy web series created and written by Felicia Day, who also stars as Codex.

The show revolves around the lives of online guild The Knights of Good who play countless hours of an unspecified MMORPG video game. The story focuses on Codex, the Priestess who attempts to lead a normal life after one of her guild-mates, Warlock Zaboo (Sandeep Parikh), shows up on her doorstep.

Here is the first episode. If you want more go here

Just playing around

Seeing as i'm using blogspot now, i'm going to do a few test posts, they won't be very interesting, i'm going to use this one to embed a vimeo video, sorry it's from over a year ago :)
